October 2015, and the Chiefs are in freefall. In a really disappointing 5 game losing stretch, and the franchise’s undisputed star player, Jamaal Charles, is out for the season.
In Jamaal’s absence, casual football fans might have expected Knile Davis to step up as lead running back. But in fact, a young player out of Abilene Christian had moved up the depth chart almost unnoticed. Charcandrick West was handed the keys to the Chiefs Kingdom, and he grabbed his chance with both hands. His first career touchdown – as well as over 100 yards from scrimmage – came in the win over the Steelers which snapped the losing streak.
The following week, KC came to London, and West starred in a memorable win – another score, another 100 yards. And, after a bye week, the Chiefs went to Denver and West had his career defining week. 161 yards. 2 touchdowns – the second a stunning 80 yard catch and run.
The turnaround from a 1 and 5 start, to finishing the season 11 and 5, is a great recent Chiefs memory, and it absolutely coincides with Charcandrick West’s greatest spell in Kansas City. Moosey – thanks for the memories!
