This week’s players to watch are a pair that weren’t even on the team last year, but may end up being the difference between success or not.
Offensive player to watch – Sammy Watkins
All eyes will be on Sammy Watkins this Saturday evening. After a couple of ‘meh’ performances so far, the expectation is for Watkins to put on a show that will certainly ease some of our concerns. The opportunities should be there with the starters expected to play well into the third quarter. Fingers crossed that some chemistry between Mahomes and Watkins will be demonstrated so we can go back to being excited about the former Rams receiver.
Defensive player to watch – Orlando Scandrick
1 week ago Orlando Scandrick wasn’t even on the roster, now there is talks of him possibly starting week one against the Chargers. If that is the case then this week’s game should be the one and only chance we get to take a look at Scandrick between now and L.A. With Steve Nelson our injured, we should see a fair amount of Scandrick at Soldier Field.
The former Cowboys cornerback has had himself a nice career, however expectations from the Chiefs Kingdom are low as he reaches the twilight of his NFL days.
Battle to watch – Terrance Smith vs Ben Niemann
It’s very possible that only one of these will make the final 53. Smith may have assumed he had a shoe-in a couple weeks ago, but with the emergence of Niemann, this position battle is now likely to go to the wire. It should be fun.
