Are you surprised? Because we sure aren’t. For the second week in a row, Patrick Mahomes has been named the “AFC Offensive Player of the Week”, after the team’s victory over the Steelers at Heinz Field.
Mahomes is quickly proving how he’s one of the better quarterbacks in the league by throwing for 326 yards in week 2 with a massive 6/0 TD/INT ratio. What makes these stats even more exciting for the team going forward is that 5 different receivers caught touchdown passes this game; Kareem Hunt, Tyreek Hill, Chris Conley, Demarcus Robinson and Travis Kelce twice. The breadth of this offence has really helped Mahomes take his talent to the next level.
With the questionable secondary that the Chiefs have at the moment, it seems that “Showtime” will have to be relied upon for slightly longer until, at least, Eric Berry comes back in a couple of weeks time. However I’ve got a strong feeling that this kind of pressure doesn’t phase our QB 1; and may even encourage him to have more huge games.
So now that the team is at 2-0, and Mahomes on track to have a monster year as his first full season as a starter, it’s time for the fans to sit back and revel in his talent whilst looking forward to the first home game of the season against the 49ers this Sunday.
Be prepared to see articles like this a lot this year.
