The story so far

The Chiefs offensive juggernaut keeps rolling. 3 weeks in and 3 top class performances. Missing your starting LT? No bother. WR1 not healthy? Fine. RB1 can’t go either? Yeah, that’s grand. Is there anything that slows down the Reid and Mahomes show? The Lions are also unbeaten, although they threw away a healthy lead in week 1 that should see them sitting 3-0 right now rather than 2-0-1. They’ve beaten the Eagles and the Chargers so it’s not like they’ve played a Patriots like schedule so far.  The Lions haven’t scored more than 27 points in a game so far, the Chiefs haven’t scored less than 28. Just sayin.

One to watch

Emmanuel Ogbah

Teams are keying on Frank Clarke and Chris Jones. Problem is, you can only double so many players and Emmanuel Ogbah is benefiting from this. 2.5 sacks and a forced fumble is pretty good production so far. Let’s see if the Lions start to pay him more attention.

Key Matchup

TJ Hockenson v Chiefs Lbs

Opposing TE have done reasonably well so far against the Chiefs this season. Hockenson was taken with the 8th pick in the 1st round of this year’s draft. He looks every bit the high pick so far averaging 17.4 yards per reception. The Chiefs need to keep a tight reign on him on Sunday.

What they said

Matt Patricia

“A really difficult team to defend in the red (zone) area,” Patricia said of the Chiefs. “They have a lot of weapons. They have a great package. (Chiefs Head Coach) Andy (Reid) does a good job of scheming that all up and really giving the go-to-guys a lot of different plays and putting them in really good positions to score. That’ll be a big challenge for us there.

“On the other side of the ball, a lot of pressure from the defensive line. Those guys do a great job of getting after the quarterback, stopping the run and are very aggressive down there. They’ll blitz a little bit more, too. We just have to get all those looks here today and try to do the best we can with them and keep improving, and get ready for the game.”

What we said

Andy Reid

“They have a good scheme and then they play hard. They tackle well. They’ve made a living off [forcing] turnovers on defense and offensively, they’re scoring some points. You have to make sure that you stay on top of that,” Reid said. “They have a quarterback who has been around a while and knows the game. They have some skill guys that can also play right in there. [Their] special teams are doing a good job, too.”

Odds

Chiefs by 6.5 points

Match points 54.5

I’d be taking the over on the Chiefs and the under on the points. I think the Chiefs win easy and I struggle to see the Lions putting up all that many points to drag the match points up.

Prediction

Chiefs 35 Lions 17
