Takes two to tango

With the draft around the corner, Chris has been looking at the Chiefs drafts under John Dorsey and Andy Reid then in part two looking at Brett Veach and Andy Reid to see if we can find any trends.

One clear trend is that under Brett Veach the Chiefs will be aggressive and tend to only use about 6 draft picks. Now, considering we have 12 picks this year and 6 of those are in the first three rounds, lets have a look at who our trade partners could be and why we would be looking to trade. Most of these teams are looking for a rebuild and could be open to gaining extra picks.

New York Giants

Round 1 Pick 7

Likely cost : Picks 29, 30, 50 and 62.

Why there : Looking for an extremely premium pass rusher? Look no further than here but be prepared for a steep price. This is probably the range where Travon Walker goes, it could be possible that Kayvon Thibodeaux could slide this far.

New York Jets

Round 1 Pick 10

Likely cost : Either picks 29 and 30 or pick 30, 50 and 62.

Why there : Travon Walker could still be available if you still want a premium pass rusher. This could also be a landing spot for “Sauce” Gardner if you want one of the top corners on the board.

Houston Texans

Round 1 Pick 13

Likely cost : Picks 29 and 30.

Why there : Getting into another top tier pass rush range with Jermaine Johnson somewhere in this area. “Sauce” could still be on the table too.

Philadelphia Eagles

Round 1 Pick 16

Likely cost : Picks 29 and 30.

Why there : Maybe Jermaine Johnson is still around. Now you could be moving into Devonte Wyatt territory, the beast of a DT from Georgia. Or perhaps we could be looking for one of the top tier Receivers if Garrett Wilson, Drake London, Chris Olave tickles your fancy.

New England Patriots

Round 1 Pick 21

Likely cost : Either a 1st and a 3rd round or a both 2nd round picks.

Why there: Getting in ahead of Green Bay. We have very similar needs, both teams lost a top Receiver, both teams need pass rush help. We both have two of the next ten picks. Maybe Wilson, London and Olave are still there. Maybe George Karlaftis, the DE from Purdue is available. All those are likely Green Bay targets. If one is held in high regard by Veach then 21 is the last chance to get in before Green Bay.

Dallas Cowboys

Round 1 Pick 24

Likely cost : 1st and a 4th round pick.

Why there : Possibly pick up the last of the top shelf Receivers here. The Bills and Titans both pick next, either could use to add additional fire power. It’s possible we could want to get in ahead of them both.

That takes care of the trading up scenarios. Tomorrow we’ll take a look at trading down.
